Diagnostic fee, explained

The fee customers resent most is the one nobody explains. When you set a diagnostic fee, the customer's inspection page tells them exactly what it buys, then visibly credits it back the moment they approve the repair. It never touches the numbers on the estimate. You still add or remove the fee line yourself. Current fee: not set.

Before they approve, they see
Diagnostic fee $120 - what it buys: the time our technician spends testing, scanning and pinpointing the real problem, so the repair we recommend is the right one. This is credited toward your repair when you approve the work.
Once they approve the repair, they see
Diagnostic fee applied: -$120 As promised, your $120 diagnostic fee is credited toward the repair you approved. You pay to fix it, not twice to find it. Your estimate already reflects this.

To change the amount or the one-line explanation, open Setup, Diagnostic fee explained. Honest by design: the widget explains and reassures, it does not silently change any total.
